Our team present at Fundação Procafé’s Field Days

On May 21st and 22nd, EllerS Coffee took part in the traditional Field Days event, organized by Fundação Procafé at the Experimental Farm in Varginha, Minas Gerais. The gathering brought together coffee growers, technicians, agronomists, researchers, and students, with the goal of showcasing, in practice, the latest technologies and research aimed at the rational and sustainable management of coffee plantations.

The event addressed key topics for the sector, including:

  • New types of coffee seedlings;

  • The impact of different harvest periods on coffee productivity and quality;

  • Cultivar competitions, emphasizing the importance of selecting varieties suited to the terroir and the desired productivity;

  • The 2025 crop loss, analyzing the impacts of the March drought;

  • Presentations by companies such as Stoller, Basf, and Ihara, who introduced innovations in combating aggressive coffee pests like Leaf Miner, Phoma, and Rust.

Key learnings and practical applications

Participants followed demonstrations directly in the coffee fields, divided into groups to closely observe the effects of management practices, applied inputs, and ongoing research on new coffee varieties.

One of the highlights was the impact of harvest timing: early (green) harvesting can increase productivity but compromises bean quality, while late harvesting enhances quality but reduces the plant’s production potential for the following season. Evaluating this balance is crucial for strategic decisions by producers.

Another significant topic was the estimated 10% loss for the 2025 crop, directly resulting from the March drought, which affected the grain-filling stage. Although bean size is expected to remain good, density was compromised, meaning that a larger volume of beans will be required to make up the traditional 60 kg sack.

Additionally, innovations presented by agrochemical companies demonstrated how technological advancements are essential to mitigate pest impacts and improve crop management, contributing to both productivity and sustainability in the sector.

Statements: EllerS Coffee’s experience

Julhyana Veloso, responsible for commercial and marketing at EllerS Coffee, gave a positive assessment of the experience:

“Events like Field Days are fundamental to strengthening the coffee sector, making it more prepared, more technical, and more competitive. The integration of research, practice, and innovation raises the standard of Brazilian coffee production.”

Mateus Eller, agronomist and commercial representative at EllerS Coffee, also emphasized the event’s importance:

“I graduated eight years ago, and since then, a lot has changed. This Field Day clearly showed that we must always stay updated because the coffee world is constantly evolving. Another special moment was speaking with J. B. Mattiello, a true reference in the sector, who has dedicated decades to research and improving our cultivars and production techniques.”

Reflection and sector perspectives

EllerS Coffee points out that, to make events like this even more complete, it would be valuable to include discussions on national and international market trends. After all, aspects related to global demand and the positioning of Brazilian coffee directly influence production and commercial decisions.

By participating in technical events like Fundação Procafé’s Field Days, EllerS Coffee reaffirms its commitment to constant updating, the appreciation of scientific knowledge, and the pursuit of excellence in coffee production and trade, helping to consolidate Brazil as a global benchmark in coffee quality and sustainability.
