The country exported 17% less in July, but also showed a drop in coffee imports from other origins

Colombia exported 846,000 bags in July, a volume that represents 17% less when compared to the same period last year. In the last 12 months, the neighboring country exported 10.3 million bags. The data are part of the report by the National Federation of Coffee Growers (FNC) released this Wednesday morning (9).
On the production side, the FNC reported that for the second consecutive month the volume was stable, reaching 947,000 60-kilogram bags. But, in the last 12 months Colombia recorded a drop of 11%, from 12 million bags to 10.6 million.
"Result of climatic variables that affected coffee production", says the publication. It is important to remember that while La Niña brought drought and frost in the coffee growing areas of Brazil, in the neighboring country the coffee producer had to deal with excessive rain in the last three years.
Faced with production problems, Colombia has been buying a significant volume of coffee from other producing origins, including Brazil. The FNC also informed that in the last month the import volume had dropped by 50% compared to the same period last year. According to the report, in July 2023 the country imported 86,000 bags, while in 2022 it had purchased 171,000 60-kilogram bags.
