With the dry climate, the robusta coffee harvest reached about 95% of the total in Espírito Santo, the main producer state of the variety, whose crops also recorded the first flowering for next year's crop (2024/2020). 25), said a report by the Center for Advanced Studies in Applied Economics (Cepea) this Tuesday.
"It is worth mentioning that, in Espírito Santo, there were reports of the first flowerings of the 2024/25 crop, and, in principle, expectations for the next season are positive, as long as the weather remains favorable, with constant rains from spring to a good flower setting", commented Cepea, from Esalq/USP.
Robusta grain prices have been supported by greater international demand, after a drop in supply from Vietnam, the main producer of the variety. This should boost grain shipments from Brazil.
In Rondônia, another important Robusta producing state in Brazil, harvesting work has already been completed, added Cepea.
The study center also pointed out that the values of robusta coffee on the domestic market remained between 640 reais and 650 reais a bag in the first week of August, "and negotiations remained reduced, influenced by the limited supply of the grain".
The Arabica coffee harvest is also advanced in the most important producing regions of Brazil.
According to Cepea, activities reached 85% of the area in Matas Mineiras, 82% in Mogiana and 75% in Sul de Minas. In Cerrado Mineiro, the harvest advanced to 70%, and in Garça (SP) and in the Northwest of Paraná, 60%.
In relation to the market, the domestic prices of arabica coffee had "good recovery" in the first week of August, reaching over 850 reais per bag in some days, versus between 800 and 830 reais in the second half of July.
"With the boost to variety prices, mainly on Thursday, the 3rd, several negotiations of slightly more expressive volumes were reported by agents consulted by Cepea", he said.
With higher production in the current season, producers have taken the opportunity to carry out deliveries of arabica that were pending, after the drought breaks in the 2021/22 and 2022/23 seasons.
